Ian Mutton BA (Hons), Dip Arch (Hons) RIBA
Chairman

Local to Sheringham, Ian joined SMG in January 2000, having studied at Greenwich University PT and working in London for 12 years. Ian qualified as an Architect in London working on a wide range of buildings nationwide. He eventually escaped the smoke to work in Kings Lynn as Carters lead Architect for two years, before joining David Stead Architects in 2000. His remit was to expand the practice and take over David’s mantle. Over the years the practice has grown significantly in size and influence in all areas of architecture. Ian comes from a strong technical and design background and provides guidance and leadership to his colleagues. Ian has now led the practice for 23 years and has placed Adam Griggs, a friend and colleague from the Carters days, to continue expanding the good name and reputation of SMG as Ian takes on the role of Chairman.

Fun Fact: Ian’s dream job as a kid was to be a carpenter but after working as a draughtsman from school, found that he enjoyed the construction of buildings a more interesting challenge.
