A team of 25 people from the Lighthouse Community Church in Sheringham (including our MD, Ian Mutton) will be heading out to Lewero in Uganda for eight days, to provide support to the school and community there.

The church and school in Lewero have been partnered by the Sheringham church for five years, and much progress has been made during that time.

During their time in Uganda, the team will be installing a water filtering system to ensure clean, safe and secure water supplies for the village. This will entail building, painting, fixing guttering, installing the water filter system, installing electrics, solar lights, rain water collection system etc.

Their packed week will also include the following:

  • Supporting the local churches, participating in their meetings by providing music, teaching, sharing testimonies etc.
  • Running a teacher training course, giving information about disciplinary methods, and providing text books and training on how to use them.
  • Holding a holiday club with lots of fun activities for the children (over 300 in total) including decorating T-shirts, parachute games, weaving etc.
  • Running a knitting club, drawing alongside the ladies of the village and showing them how to knit/crochet etc.
  • Distributing clothing
  • Organising a sports day, community event with prizes etc – building relationships
  • Giving medical check-ups to all children in the school, and giving treatments where necessary (the team includes 3 nurses)
  • Running a feeding programme aimed at the elderly – They will be giving out sacks which each contain one month’s food

“The purpose of this trip is to support the community and work at the school and the church, to share God’s love, build relationships, encourage and equip; it’s all about sharing our faith and putting it into action.” said Alice Dawson, one of the team members.

Lighthouse Community Church has held several fundraising events, including a Curry and Cabaret, and Lasagne Bonanza, which have provided funds to go towards the projects, and to bless the teachers and others in Uganda financially.
The group is leaving Sheringham on Friday October 23 2015 and will travel home on Monday November 2, and would welcome people’s prayer while they are away.
